Question on: JAMB Physics - 2020
Which of the following can be described as high tension transmission?
High resistance and low voltage
Low current and high voltage
High current and low voltage
High current and low resistance
High tension transmission refers to the transmission of electricity at high voltage. This is done to minimize power loss during transmission over long distances. The power loss is proportional to the square of the current and the resistance of the transmission lines (P = I²R). By increasing the voltage, the current is reduced for the same amount of power transmitted (P = VI).
